Watching ‘Stranger Things’ Finale in a Theater: Biggest Fan Reactions

SPOILER ALERT: This story accommodates spoilers for the collection finale of “Stranger Things,” now streaming on Netflix.

After 5 seasons and practically a decade of anticipation, the “Stranger Things” finale has arrived. Unlike the 41 episodes previous it, the finale was not exclusive to the small display, as Netflix determined to event-ize the popular culture phenomenon’s ship off with a restricted theatrical release on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 across 500 theaters.

The earliest screenings occurred at 5 p.m. PT, coinciding with the second that the episode dropped on the streamer. While there was no formal crimson carpet premiere, the most sensational screening might have been at Netflix’s very personal Egyptian Theater in the coronary heart of Hollywood. Audiences donning Hellfire Club t-shirts, WSQK shirts, bowl cuts and other Nineteen Eighties attire from the present packed the historic theater, wanting to experience their favourite present on the big display for the first time.

The viewers was a sea of nerds. Considering that “Stranger Things” started in 2016, the youngest followers in the crowd very nicely might not have been born when the present first debuted. Similarly, the adolescents in the theater had been most likely in kindergarten when the first season got here out. Personally, I used to be in school in 2016, and have been watching the present for most of my twenties. To see the finale in theaters, surrounded by followers on the day of its premiere was thus akin to seeing “Avengers: Endgame” or “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” in the cinema on their respective opening weekends. It was the conclusion to a decade-long journey of fandom, and it made for moments that merely couldn’t be replicated in a watch celebration.
