American retailers are providing more reductions on Hershey merchandise ahead of Halloween as the candymaker raised prices because of tariffs and cocoa inflation, Reuters reported, citing data.

In addition to new tariffs and broader grocery inflation, specialists say a global cocoa scarcity tied to poor harvests and local weather shifts in West Africa has despatched cocoa prices hovering.

Candy makers are responding by shrinking bars and experimenting with new merchandise, including fruit-flavored, bitter, chili-coated, goo-filled and freeze-dried sweets, in addition to more cocoa-free white chocolate and crème choices — and candy corn, of course.

Nearly 80% of Halloween customers anticipate to pay more this 12 months, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF), and up to date e-commerce data suggests practicality is driving candy picks.
