Trader Joe’s edges out Publix, Costco as America’s new favorite

A grocer identified for its affordability and viral tote baggage has staved off competitors from Publix and Costco to turn out to be America’s favorite grocery store. 

Trader Joe’s surpassed Publix as the primary retailer on the town with a satisfaction rating of 86 factors – up two factors from 2025, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index. 

Publix has did not retain its title that it clinched last 12 months in the annual survey, which consists of votes from more than 30,000 Americans.

Trader Joe’s, based in California in 1967, is thought for its affordability, pleasant in-store vibes, and its tote baggage, which have generated a cult following with over 600 areas in 43 states.

Bosses achieved the feat despite having fewer shops than Publix, which operates 1,432 retailer areas across the southeastern US, and Costco. 

Publix has stayed the same at 84 factors, while Texas-based H-E-B is in the bronze medal place just one point behind. 

Costco has remained static with a satisfaction price of 81 factors, while Target’s score of 79 is definitely down one proportion point.

Brands such as Sam’s Club, Aldi, and Whole Foods are all in the top 10.

Wegman’s noticed the steepest decline over the past 12 months – dropping from 83 factors to 78.

Only three retailers – Save-a-Lot, Trader Joe’s, and H-E-B – improved on last 12 months’s score, according to the survey.

Walmart has a satisfaction rating of 75 factors – the same as last 12 months. The grocery store big now has a new CEO in John Furner following Doug McMillon’s resignation.

Meanwhile, H-E-B was ranked the primary grocer in the US for the fifth time in 9 years in Dunnhumby’s rankings launched last month.
