Spotify will let you edit your Taste Profile to control your recommendations

At the SXSW convention on Friday, Spotify co-CEO Gustav Söderström announced a new feature, launching in beta, that will enable listeners for the first time to review and edit their Taste Profile, the algorithmically generated mannequin of their music preferences.

This Taste Profile is key to Spotify’s recommendations, including customized playlists like Discover Weekly, Made For You recommendations, and the year-end review often known as Spotify Wrapped, among other issues.

Starting with Premium listeners initially in New Zealand, Spotify will enable customers to see all their listening data in a single place in the app, including music, podcasts, and audiobooks. Spotify had beforehand provided some instruments to take away music from your Taste Profile before, however they weren’t as complete. Instead, customers have been only ready to exclude sure tracks or playlists from their profile. Because of this, and the largely hidden nature of the Taste Profile general, Spotify customers often complained that the app’s recommendations didn’t replicate their pursuits.

Today, customers often share their Spotify account with others, like members of the family who entry their account by means of a shared sensible speaker or sensible TV in the front room, for instance, or teenagers who take over in CarPlay while they drive.

Other instances, customers could pay attention to music that they don’t need to characterize as their “taste,” like the sleep sounds or quiet tracks they play at night time, or music to entertain their youngsters. Users don’t always bear in mind which tracks or playlists want to be eliminated, nor have they got time to return and accomplish that. This can lead to the Taste Profile turning into cluttered with music customers don’t like.
