The FA will not be taking action against Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe over his Sky News interview which contained controversial comments about immigration.

The affiliation had been trying into whether or not he had breached laws, however will not penalise the businessman. He has been issued with a reminder of his tasks when collaborating in media interviews.

Earlier in February, the INEOS founder warned Britain faces profound political, social and financial challenges, among them an unprecedented rise in immigration lately.

“You can’t have an economy with nine million people on benefits and huge levels of immigrants coming in,” Ratcliffe said. “I mean, the UK has been colonised. It’s costing too much money.

“The UK has been colonised by immigrants, actually, hasn’t it? I imply, the inhabitants of the UK was 58m in 2020, now it is 70m. That’s 12m people.”

However, the Office of National Statistics (ONS) estimates the population of the UK was 67m in mid-2020 and 70m in mid-2024. The UK population was estimated at 58.9m in 2000.

Ratcliffe later issued a statement defending his comments, which read: “I’m sorry that my selection of language has offended some people in the UK and Europe and induced concern however it’s important to lift the issue of managed and well-managed immigration that helps financial progress.

“My comments were made while answering questions about UK policy at the European Industry Summit in Antwerp, where I was discussing the importance of economic growth, jobs, skills and manufacturing in the UK.

“My intention was to stress that governments must handle migration alongside funding in abilities, business and jobs so that long-term prosperity is shared by everybody. It is essential that we preserve an open debate on the challenges going through the UK.”

The comments were widely condemned, including by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham. Man Utd also released a statement saying the club “prides itself on being an inclusive and welcoming club” before noting that “equality, range and inclusion” has been embedded into every part the club does.

Man Utd boss Michael Carrick was requested for his evaluation on Ratcliffe’s comments that immigrants had colonised the UK and about the affect of his phrases.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s league journey to Everton, he said: “Sir Jim made his statement and the club made a statement on the back of it. It is not my place to add to that. Enough has been said in that regard.

“What I can say is that I’ve been round this club many years and we always make a huge effect globally and we’re actually chargeable for that.

“Throughout the years, as a player and member of staff and as a supporter, we are really proud of the environment and culture we’ve got at the club.

“Equality and variety and respect for each other is one thing we glance to hold via every day. I’ve travelled the world and know what this club means to an terrible lot of people.

“I am fully aware of the responsibility and we try to carry that out every day.”

He added: “I am proud of what the club stands for and has done for so long.”
