NASA eyes March 6 launch of astronaut moon mission

NASA officers on Friday said the company was concentrating on March 6 for (*6*)the launch of 4 astronauts round the moon and again as half of its Artemis II mission after overcoming rocket-fueling snags in a second key launch rehearsal this week, however cautioned that remaining prep work may warrant more time.

The U.S. house company on Thursday evening capped a virtually 50-hour rehearsal of the Artemis II launch countdown, fueling the rocket with some 730,000 gallons of propellant without operating into the pesky hydrogen leaks that hobbled an preliminary rehearsal last month, officers said during a news convention.

Artemis program managers had been elated that the Wet Dress Rehearsal, a complete simulation of the Space Launch System’s launch-day countdown, went easily, however said remaining work ahead may still push the launch date additional into NASA’s March launch window.

“I felt like last night was a big step in us earning our right to fly. So, felt really good, very proud of the team,” said NASA launch director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson.

Remaining work consists of testing the rocket’s flight termination system and conducting a sweeping Flight Readiness Review, a day-long assembly of company administration during which they successfully double-check all rocket {hardware} and mission procedures before liftoff.
