Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan Lands Title Role in ‘Mother Maybe’

Philippine theater actor Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan has secured the title function in director Sonny Calvento‘s “Mother Maybe,” becoming a member of beforehand announced star Anthony Jennings, Southern Lantern Studios revealed.

The horror-comedy-drama, a tri-national co-production between Southern Lantern Studios (Philippines), E&W Films (Singapore) and Volos Films Ltd. (Taiwan), follows Marco (Jennings), a younger man who reunites together with his long-lost mom during a high-stakes Asian game present, only to find she transforms into one thing monstrous at evening. Nuevo-Tadioan will play Minda, the mom at the middle of the supernatural narrative.

In the function, Nuevo-Tadioan portrays a dad or mum who communicates minimally and retains a lot of her emotional life hidden. The character required a performer who can build rigidity by what goes unexpressed – by hidden truths, contained emotions and deliberate bodily decisions. The movie makes use of supernatural horror to look at the abroad Filipino employee experience and the emotional toll of migration.

The casting represents just Nuevo-Tadioan’s second movie project – after her display debut in “Phantosmia,” a movie by director Lav Diaz that premiered at the Venice Film Festival – though she brings intensive stage credentials to the manufacturing. A veteran member of Tanghalang Pilipino – the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ resident theater company – Nuevo-Tadioan has constructed a repute for performances requiring each emotional depth and bodily self-discipline.

Her work in “Anak Datu” introduced her twin honors: the Gawad Buhay Award for Outstanding Performer and the Aliw Award for Best Featured Performer. Playing the character Potri Loling without any spoken strains, Nuevo-Tadioan demonstrated an ability to convey advanced emotional states by bodily performance alone.

That specific skill caught Calvento’s consideration. “In theater, Lhorvie carries an extraordinary authority,” Calvento said. “What moved me most was her ability to hold an audience even in silence. She doesn’t need dialogue to be felt – her body and stillness already speak.”

The director also praised Nuevo-Tadioan’s pure display presence. “There’s something deeply cinematic about her,” he added. “The smallest shift in her movement, the way she holds a pause. Those nuances already tell a story. That’s essential for this role.”

Calvento believes Nuevo-Tadioan’s stage training has ready her to take care of the function’s understated depth and emotional complexity.

Production on the movie resumes in February. The project has secured vital trade recognition, successful the TAICCA Development Grant at Full Circle Lab Philippines and the Malaysian Development Lab for Feature Films in 2022, adopted by the TAICCA x CNC Award for Best Project and the MPA Grand Award at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest in 2023.
