Hershey says it’s returning all of its merchandise to “classic milk and dark chocolate recipes,” changing a compound chocolate coating after a wave of heated backlash led by the grandson of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups creator.

Hershey said the choice to swap out the ingredients was made as its new management team got here together, with CEO Kirk Tanner taking the helm last summer season – and nicely before Brad Reese, whose grandfather HB Reese invented the well-known deal with, took purpose at the sweet big.

“They’re untrustworthy. I don’t believe them for a minute,” he told The Post in an interview. “They’re going to try to milk this compound they’re using as long as they can.”

“Saying it only affects 3% of their portfolio, that’s total bunk. They’re trying to minimize and they’re trying to change the narrative.”

Hershey told The Post it has ramped up research-and-development investments by 25%, saying it’s “committed to making products consumers love and that means continually reviewing our recipes to meet evolving tastes and preferences.”

During its investor convention Tuesday, the company also announced it’s reformulating its Kit Kat recipe for a “creamier-tasting chocolate.” The company confirmed Kit Kat merchandise will still comprise real milk and darkish chocolate.

The company also said it’s on monitor to take away all synthetic dyes from its merchandise by the end of 2027 – the latest model alongside Nestle and Kraft Heinz to make the swap following calls for from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Tanner told Bloomberg that Hershey’s colourful candies – like Reese’s Pieces and Jolly Ranchers – will stay vibrant with the use of pure dyes.
