Giuseppe Tornatore’s Brunello Cucinelli Doc Reveals First-Look Images

Oscar-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore‘s upcoming documentary about Brunello Cucinelli, the fashion designer known as Italy’s “King of Cashmere,” is being launched in earnest at the American Film Market by London-based sales and manufacturing company Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment.

Variety can solely reveal first-look photos of the buzzy hybrid movie, which mixes documentary and fiction and is titled “Brunello: The Gracious Visionary.” It chronicles Cucinelli’s rise from being a farmer’s son to turning into artistic director and government chairman of a global luxurious lifestyle model with a market capitalization of more than $7.8 billion. The movie is described in promotional supplies as “an intimate portrait of Brunello Cucinelli, a ‘philosopher-designer’ revered for his distinctive integration of humanistic values, craftsmanship and ethical entrepreneurship.”

After a tender launch in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and market, Twenty-Nine Palms — a new outfit that debuted at Cannes headed by former Amazon MGM Studios exec Edoardo Bussi — is now ramping up sales efforts on “Brunello: The Gracious Visionary” ahead of its release through RAI Cinema’s 01 Distribution in Italy on Dec. 9, adopted by a global roll out in 2026.

Cucinelli, who was born in the historic Umbrian hamlet of Castel Rigone in 1953, based his company in 1978 and have become profitable by dyeing cashmere in “pop colors” at a time when, as he has put it, there was no coloured cashmere for women. Cucinelli has said the doc, which was shot in Umbria, will depict key moments in his profession, showcasing his ardour for Italian craftsmanship and dedication to a concept he calls “humanistic capitalism,” under which every sew of clothes his company creates is made in Italy and principally in the space the place he comes from.

“Brunello: The Gracious Visionary” will feature re-enactments during which Cucinelli is performed by a number of actors. The picture above with the neon “BAR” signal options the actor Francesco Ferroni, while the youthful actor in the wheat discipline (picture below) is Francesco Cannevale.

Cucinelli is also being re-enacted by rising Italian star Saul Nanni, who performed the prince’s nephew Tancredi Falconeri in Netflix’s lavish Italian unique “The Leopard.”

“Brunello: The Gracious Visionary,” which is produced by Italy’s Masi Film, pairs Tornatore with Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani (“Life Is Beautiful”). In the past, Tornatore often labored with the legendary late composer Ennio Morricone, who was the topic of his earlier doc “Ennio” that bought widely following its Venice Film Festival bow in 2021.
