Ford may scrap money-losing F-150 electric truck: report

Ford executives are contemplating scrapping the electric version of the F-150 pickup truck, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing people conversant in the matter.

Ford declined to touch upon the matter, however said that it was targeted on producing fuel and hybrid powered variants of its F-150 because it recovers from the fireplace at Novelis.

Last month, a union official told Reuters that Ford was pausing manufacturing at the Dearborn, Michigan, plant that makes its F-150 Lightning electric pickup resulting from a fireplace at a provider’s aluminum manufacturing facility.

“We have good inventories of the F-150 Lightning and will bring Rouge Electric Vehicle Center back up at the right time, but don’t have an exact date at this time,” Ford said in a press release on Thursday.

The WSJ report added that General Motors executives have mentioned discontinuing some electric vans, citing people conversant in the matter.
