Dia’s AI browser starts adding Arc’s ‘best hits’ to its feature set

The AI net browser Dia is drawing inspiration from its predecessor, Arc, an earlier experiment in modernizing the net looking experience that hailed from the startup referred to as The Browser Company. On Sunday, The Browser Company founder Josh Miller confirmed that the new AI browser will carry “Arc’s greatest hits” to Dia, including issues like the sidebar mode, and mix that with AI-native options like reminiscence and brokers.

This rationalization suggests that Dia, which has since been acquired by Atlassian for $610 million, may have a bonus in the AI browser race, because it builds on the company’s earlier learnings from growing Arc.

The latter was initially launched in mid-2023 as a reinvention of the browser designed round the means people use the web today. That included providing separate workspaces for work and private looking, help for pinned tabs, a Command Bar that labored like Apple’s Spotlight search, and a sidebar that included the search bar, tab record, person bookmarks, audio controls, and more.

Tbh we (or i actually) duffed the comms in a bunch of the way, however…

1. Dia’s structure is way better for AI, speed, safety

2. We’re adapting Arc’s best hits to be native to Dia

3. Sidebar mode for Arc followers

However, Arc might have tried to push the envelope a bit too far: Miller later admitted that Arc was finally too advanced for most people to undertake.

“Arc was simply too different, with too many new things to learn, for too little reward… On top of that, Arc lacked cohesion in both its core features and core values. It was experimental, that was part of its charm, but also its complexity,” Miller wrote in a weblog submit earlier this 12 months, detailing the company’s choice to wind down Arc and open source it, and refocusing the company’s efforts on constructing Dia.

But Arc might not essentially be a failure, even if it didn’t grow to be a widely adopted shopper product. Instead, the browser gave the company a year-plus’ value of insights into what kind of trendy browser options resonate with customers and which of them don’t.

That may assist the company get ahead when constructing out the feature set for Dia.

As Miller says in a submit on X, “Dia’s architecture is much better for AI, speed, and security,” however it’ll introduce options that Arc followers beloved, like the sidebar mode — which was just noticed in the company’s latest “early birds” release of Dia’s AI browser.

I’m daily-driving @diabrowser as a years-long Arc person and now an Early Bird, and I can say I’m so shut to not miss Arc.

Dia browser now has:
– Focus mode
– Vertical tabs
– Pinned tabs (grid-view)
– Google Meet PIP

And I now await only three issues before deleting Arc

Already, Dia has added other options from Arc’s “greatest hits,” like turning Google Meet right into a picture-in-picture participant routinely if you swap tabs and customized keyboard shortcuts. Miller hinted that the company is exploring how to transition Arc’s Spaces — the distinct looking areas with their very own set of pinned tabs, favorites, themes, historical past, and cookies — to Dia. And he said Dia’s team is at the moment testing pinned tabs.

Miller moreover solicited suggestions about other options to add, like swipeable profiles, and Arc Search-inspired updates for the Dia cell app coming in 2026.

Plus, Miller notes, Dia can have less bloat and will probably be AI-native for issues like reminiscence and brokers.

Following the acquisition by Atlassian, The Browser Company continues to function independently. As a result, Miller said the company will probably be in a position to add more “browser basics,” referring to favourite Arc options, to the Dia browser. He also shared that Dia is growing deeper integrations with Atlassian’s Jira and other apps, like Linear, under its new proprietor.
