Anthropic hackathon proves vibe coding is here to stay

The period of vibe coding — the observe of constructing software by describing what you need in plain English and letting artificial intelligence deal with the relaxation — is here.

The AI company Anthropic not too long ago sponsored a hackathon that drew 13,000 candidates — and most of the winners weren’t engineers or even in tech. It’s the latest signal that the future of innovation belongs to the people who perceive issues, not essentially the people who can code.

“There’s always been a tech barrier between domain expertise and coding,” said Dr. Michał Nedoszytko, an interventional heart specialist based in Brussels who took third place in the competitors. “[But now] if anyone has enough expertise, they can create advanced solutions. Programming is solved.”

A source shut to Anthropic famous that the company’s hackathons have seen a surge in submissions from non-technical candidates over the last six months.

Nedoszytko tinkered with code for years however may never fairly bridge the hole between his medical experience and the merchandise he envisioned constructing. But developments in AI over the last few months alone modified that.

This story is a part of NYNext, an indispensable insider perception into the innovations, moonshots and political chess strikes that matter most to NYC’s energy gamers (and those who aspire to be).

He constructed PostVisit.ai, a platform that guides sufferers after they go away the doctor’s workplace. Too often, sufferers stroll out of appointments overwhelmed and confused, PostVisit.ai explains their diagnosis and treatment plan in simple language on-line.

“Healthcare is being redefined,” Nedoszytko said.

First place went to lawyer Mike Brown for CrossBeam — a tool that cuts by California’s tedious allowing course of for accent dwelling items.

Other winners included an digital musician who constructed a generative AI band, and an Ugandan infrastructure employee whose tool turns street footage into funding suggestions.

The competitors supplied $100,000 in Claude API credit — tokens that let builders entry and build with Anthropic’s AI fashions — cut up among winners, and challenged contributors to build instruments utilizing the company’s new Opus 4.6 mannequin and Claude Code, its agentic coding tool.

Wall Street is bullish on the developments. “This is going to create so much more innovation… we will be able to harness so much brain power,” Dan Ives, the veteran tech analyst at Wedbush Securities, told me. “This is not going to structurally unseat tech companies — it’s the democratization of coding.”

He added. “This is the Jetsons, not the Flintstones.”

Nedoszytko, who’s now centered on elevating cash and constructing more medical AI merchandise, is also excited about the technology. “This is the time to build,” he said. “The time is now.”
